Big Difference on Credit Scores from the 3 agencies

I'm getting quoted some silly rates from my broker so I requested my credit report from all three agencies. I was surprised that whereas Equifax and Call Credit showed credit scores of 847 and 959 respectively, Experian is only 676 - does anyone know why there would be such a wide difference between them, or how it can be looked at again?

I've heard that Experian is used widely by lenders which is worrying as it would explain why I seem to be struggling.

I'm sure when I checked mine in the past, one of the agencies used 6 years of data and one used 3 years of data - the low score could be because of that.

Best thing to do is get a copy of the report yourself and see.

Bear in mind that lenders each credit score in different ways i.e. they don't look at what your Equifax 'scores' are, only what your credit history is like. Really these so-called scores a bit of a fallacy.

you cannot compare their scores - only what is showing on them. If there is an account (eg a loan) on one but not on the other (be it all paid on time or defaulted) then this will have an impact. All of those scores are fine for a mortgage (don't worry about Call Credit) but when a mortgage company has a set criteria for what it will accept then thats when you need to check the detail

I've got the scores/reports through Checkmyfile.com but whereas Equifax/Call Credit show detailed information, the Experian one just shows a summary saying it's a public credit report so theres no detail behind it.

I understand the scores are arbitary to an extent and the reports might contain information from different sources but I've never had a late payment (excepting the odd "one-month late" over 4 years ago).

I was just surprised why the Experian information would be scored so differently.

Jaxer - which lenders is your broker suggesting at the moment?

    HI Andy,

I've taken the liberty of sending you a PM. Hope you don't mind as I didn't want to post all the details here.
