I have had a bottle of champagne for 2 years. Do you think it will still be OK ?

    Hi Jasmine,

pop round to mine and I'll check it out for you! :D

I'm pretty sure that champagne can be kept for years, although probably best kept cool, it should be fine.

PS - You want to drink it at 8am?? Is it a special occasion?

Sorry, I don't think it will - do you want to send it to me to to the taste trial for you :p:p:p

Seriously, it'll probably be fine to drink, if not as good as it would have been 2 years ago ;)

we have champagne much lder than 2 years!

It's absolutely fine to keep, and should have kept perfectly, possibly even mellowed and improved!

Enjoy it! As all the others have said as well, I'm happy to help you out!!

Non-vintage champagne generally has a shelf life of a couple of years - champagne doesn't improve on aging as it has already generally been aged before sale point.

If it is vintage you should get more out of it. Also, if it's been kept in a cool dark place it'll have less deterioration too.

Hopefully yours will be ok - I reckon you should crack it open and have a whiff - you'll know pretty quickly if it's not for drinking. If there is just a teeny edge of deterioration, try mixing with kassis and use it for champagne cocktails!:T

Guess I'd better plan opening the two bottles we got 2 years ago then :o

Trouble is, it's only me that likes it and I can't drink loads of it in one go. Anything else you can do with it - any good champagne food recipes anyone?

It's delicious over ice-cream - like a classy ice cream soda! But you won't get rid of lots that way either.
Maybe keep some for Bucks Fizz the next morning?

A couple of years might be OK but I wouldn't try to keep ordinary champagne longer than that.

My mum was very disappointed recently after keeping a bottle for several years and then, when the 'special occasion' she had been keeping it for came round, it opened with a dull thud and the contents were thick and syrupy. :o

Edit: If you keep the open bottle in the fridge it will still be fizzy on day 2.
