hsbc or halifax

Hi ,my fix rate ends july 2008 ay 4.59% hsbc will rate match this for 2 years fix with a fee of 1800 which i can afford .Halifax my current lender can offer a 5 year fix at 6.09 % with a 999 fee. These are my 2 choices any ideas? in the current market i am no better of in the next 2 years as the fee with hsbc is big and the savings on monthly payments would be use to cover fees to remortgage again in 2 years ,so i would break even .So do i fix for 2 years or 5?

Have you tired seeing what HSBC will do for you. I was in the same situation with RBS and HSBC waived the fees (£499) on their fixed rate of 5.88. I've only had it for 2 years but I think I could have had it for longer. I'm not sure if it's because I've always banked with HSBC or they wanted my money!
