Can't tell until he finds out, and even then there are other factors.
Best to get a credit report from https://www.creditexpert.co.uk, 30 day free trial (although have to phone to cancel), and purchase a credit score for £4.95.0 -
Being self employed itself will not mean increased rates necessarily.
The little bit of bad credit however, will indeed influence a decision on rates - however tihs will depend on the nature of the bad credit, the amount and how long ago it was.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Agree with Matt83uk here and suggest get a credit report copy.
However, some lenders work on a cascade basis (although you have to be careful not to narrow your options). GMAC RFC for example have an online binding decision service and can allow you up to 4 searches with the same footprint, so you could start with mainstream and work your way down through adverse options.
Not that this is a recommendation, but it is an example of the possible options.
If you have time on your hands I would get the credit file first.I am a Mortgage Adviser
