Pushy Ballifs

just thought I'd quickly share this with you all;

Baliffs have been demanding flucuating amounts of council tax arrears between £150.00 - £300.00 a month, threatening removal of goods and prison ( neither of which could they actually do in our case, as we had been making payments) since Dec'07. BUT I now have a letter from them saying 'They are prepared to sanction payments of £100.00 a month'. :j
I got this reduced by writing to them, asking for them to supply an 'Income and Expenditure' form, clearly pointing out to them that at no time, had we ever been provided with one and therefore the amounts they were demanding, did not allow for our 4 dependent children and other finacial commitments. I stated that we had made payment to them of £100.00, cash to one of their offices for this months payment (even though they were demanding £300.00) and that we were trying to avoid creating another debt to pay off theirs.
We made sure it was an easily affordable amount and we think they probably accepted it because had we completed an Income and Expenditure form, it might have shown them that we could only afford an even smaller amount. Neither my partner and I even signed it, we just printed our names, like they do on their letters. :cool:
Needless to say, we are feeling pretty pleased with ourselves....we were not prepared to be beaten down by their bully-boy tactics,on which they seem to rely so heavily.
I hope this will offer some hope to other people.

    Well done Twinkle :j .It's always good to hear when someone stands up to the baliffs and play then at their own game!

    Going up against the heavies is brave enough, but for council tax!!!
    They usually don't take any prisoners.

    Great result. Well done.
    I can just picture you now, smiling as you polish the knuckle dusters...
