My mum recently sold her house and gave me some money to pay off some of my debts. I have written F&F letters to all my creditors, with por-rata offers.
The 2 biggest creditors have accepted (it's around 42% of the total owed) and I've paid them off.
However, I have a small (ish) one that wouldn't accept at all, so I wrote back again, they now say they will accept 80% (around £780) - do I just write the cheque and be grateful they've dropped a bit, or shall I try again and say I've only got £xx - that's my final offer.
WWYD? I never realised it would be so hard to clear my debts

I agree with Poppy. If you have settled the others at 42% that is fantastic. I would settle the last one at 80% as it is unlikely that they will drop any further. You've still saved 20%

I would say 80% seems like their "last offer" and to be honest it would be time consuming to ask for a further drop, and you have already got a great drop on the other two.

The 2 that accepted 42% (each card was around £5k and I settled for £2100 ish) were

MBNA (no DCA
The majority of the debt, to be honest, was their charges for late payments etc and normal interest. It just mounted up until I couldn't cope any more. I guess that's why they settled for a smaller amount - they knew it was their interest that had put me in trouble.
Thanks for your replies.
