Please can anyone answer my questions

I have tried searching for the answers to these simple questions, but no luck.
Does anyone know what to use to

- un block my sink
- give the washing machine a good clean out (the clothes not coming as clean and some powder/water residue in the drawer)
- a carpet cleaner/freshner, we have cats a toddler and a 6 month old carpet

I have read about using everyday household products to sort these problems, but cant remember what stuff to use (last time I trie dthe sink thing I ended up blocking it instead)

New to this old style thing.
Thanks

    Hi and welcome to OS!

Sure others will have some ideas but this is what I do

    1. Pour bicarb of soda into plughole and then add vinegar - it will fizz up and should clear a blockage/clean pipes etc

    2. Run the machine on its hottest wash (empty) with a large slug of vinegar in it. Clean the drawer by taking it out and scrubbing in hot water.

3.Before bed, sprinkle carpet with bicarb of soda. It will absorb the nasty niffs and then they can be hoovered away

or you could pour a couple of tablespoons of soda crystals & boiling water down the sink....otherwise, if that doesn't work, you'll have to get some caustic soda. just be really careful with that tho, and follow the instructions, cos its horrible stuff!!

i'd also put soda crystals in the drawer of the washer, run it at 60 on empty, and that should clear everything....all the gunk etc

and i agree with above poster re carpets....bicarb sprinkled all over and leave overnight. you can add a couple of drops of essential oil to the bicarb before you sprinkle it, if you want a nice smell , otherwise the bicarb will just neutralise the odour.

you can also use a bit of bicarb in smelly trainers you know! leave it overnight, tip it out in the morning, and no more whiffy feet :D
