LadyT, I really hope you get this sorted out, especially as the delay is going to affect your dental health. :( I know life would be harder without teeth, but not being able to afford dental treatment is wretched.

I'd also echo what you've said about not contacting the banks re your BR. I'd say that for all the banks - let the OR do it. I did the same as you - I rang Alliance & Leicester the day I was going BR, as I'd never owed them any money & I wanted to do the right thing. The result of my honesty was that they froze my account at the close of business the same day. I was furious - even though I had another account to fall back on, it still caused me problems because I couldn't even see my account online properly never mind get a statement so that I could see what had gone out & what still needed paying. :(

You can't use your account once you're BR, but if you don't contact the bank yourself, you might get a few days' leeway to sort out your direct debits etc. Once you've made that call to let the bank know you're BR, everything that happens from that point on is largely out of your hands.

Just an update for everyone who's been reading.

My business manager is a wonderful amazing human being and she sorted everything out for me. My accounts were active again as of the end of the next day (after a lot of phone calls and me pulling my hair out).

I don't know what I would've done without my business manager though. Just the thought of having to talk to some random person behind the counter in the bank to get this sorted sends me into emotional spasms.
