I would agree with all the posts so far and I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but it might be worth while getting a copy of your credit report to see what is owed to won and when it was taken out, another thing that the debt charities will tell you is to look into interest rates to see if you have a small debt say £200 with an interest rate of say 50% it would be best to pay that off quicker than a £2000 debt on a 15% interest rate. Whichever route you decide to go down DO NOT go to a company which will make money out of your situation, these companies are everywhere and have massive advertising campaigns ( paid for by the fees that they get from people in a desperate situation ) The CAB can be a wealth of information and I can personnally recommend them. Hope all goes well, you've made a massive step taking control, you'll feel so much better when things get sorted into some order.Busy mum of 3, so if my posts don't make sense or ask a silly question be patient:rotfl:0

Hi honey and welcome, as usual you are already getting loads of support and advice. With your credit cards are there any late payment or over limit charges on them. If so then we could have a go at getting those back for you. Do you have all your credit card statements hun. If not then they can be got hold of easily enough. Opening a basic account is a good idea. That way your money wont get eaten up straight away. Ras will be here soon with the letter you need to send to the DCAs. You DO NOT NEED TO speak to them on the phone. In fact from now in everything you do must be done in writing to them. And keep a file for each one and copies of everything. If you want just unplug your phone. When you put up your SOA can you tell us how much you owe and who to. And let us know the DCAs that are chasing you. They are all well known on here. Now you start your life over again from here. Stop fretting, its not productive. NOw its time to do some doing instead. Keep posting hun. And again welcome to the forum family x x xNight Owl Member No 1 :rotfl: :rotfl:

do pop back and say hi - i know its overwhelming, my "soa" is a bit vague to be honest - like you I tend to worry alot and then do a bit at a time.
remember, nothing stays the same. I know you feel terrible right now and you may feel terrible tomorrow and the next day BUT you can handle this and you will feel better.
let us know how you get on - and keep reading the site

Hi again
Any debts that are really old, over 6 years? Otherwise, send the following to each of the companies for whom you have opened letters, with a £1 postal order, recorded delivery so that you can track its receipt. It covers CCs, store cards, loans and catalogues, providing they were taken out before April 2007.
First thing is that it places the debt in dispute, which should give you 20 days or so to start sorting life out a bit.
Secondly, if they do not return the CCA with 12 working days plus 2 days, you stop paying them until they produce the documents. If they have not done so another 30 days later, they would be breaking the law if they pursued you for payment.

I do not acknowledge any debt to your company.
With reference to the above agreement, we would be grateful if you would send us a copy of this credit agreement.

We understand that under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 (Sections 77−79), we are entitled to receive a copy of our credit agreement on request; your obligation also extends to providing a statement of account. . We enclose a payment of £1.00 which represents the fee payable under the Consumer Credit Act.
2. A signed true copy of the deed of assignment of the above referenced agreement that you allege exists.
We understand a copy of our credit agreement should be supplied within 12 working days.
3. You are notified that you are obliged to supply these documents, whether you are the original creditor or not under S189 of the CCA 1974.
We understand that under the Consumer Credit Act creditors are unable to enforce an agreement if they fail to comply with a request for a copy of the agreement under these sections of the Act.

Well done for facing up to it, that moment of realisation is the worst. Others have offered you sound advice.
I had my lightbulb moment in august 2006 and felt sick in the stomach. I was paying about £150 a month in charges, more in interest. I used to never open post. Now I look forward to paying bills (strange, I know, but this is the reward for my hard work, watching it go down). I hav had one bank charge since then and always open post.
You can turn your life around through commitment and hard work.
I think you need to post an SOA and we can see where you might make savings.0 -

Hi,
Just to say welcome and you will be looking forward to loads of friendly support. You have now taken the first step towards sorting everything out.
I have just been the same as you up to 2 days ago - I was so so desperate and not knowing which way to turn. After posting a thread on this site I have found so much support and this has enabled me to start sorting out my finances - and I feel loads better. I am now in the process with CCCS getting a DMP.
Take it easy one step at a time -
