Power cut -could cry!

Had almost 24 hours without power so despite best efforts freezer defrosted. Have tried ot eat some of the food but quite a lot of the meat dishes will have to go. Hopefully insurance will cover part of the cost. Not just lost of food that is a pain but all the time spent cooking. Will have to batch cook this weekend. Anyone any good slow cooker recipes which are very simple to do as have little time to cook this weekend.
Many thanks!!

I wouldn't go down the route of trying to bump up your claim, most insurers will ask for the cubic capacity of the freezer and give a value based on what they feel is a fair for the size - if you put in a large claim then they'll question it and you could end up in serious doo-doo.

Just be realistic - I know it's horrible to think about all those lost hours of cooking but at least you will be compensated.

Check out the index for lots of SC reciepes, you'll have it restocked in no time.......just remember to keep it as full as possible until then, bulk buy milk and bread that can be defrosted when you've got another batch of stuff to store.

D'ya know most freezer will stay frozen for up to two days if full when the power goes off, it should tell you in your handbook how long its ok for...what a shame yours didn't last...

If you phone and complain at the electric supplier they will offer some form of compensation as a 'goodwill gesture' it is only about £50.. but they come up trumps really quickly normally.

I'd put in an insurance claim for the MAXIMUM they insure you for.. it isn't usually much anyway.. about £1200 normally... think mine is £2500 because I have 2 freezers.

When mine went I had to fill out an inventory form of the entire contents of my fridge and freezer and got the full amount back from my insurance company :D

In all fairness Sillyvixen the OP was simply asking for recipes and ideas for restocking, not clamouring for sympathy or demanding compensation!

Hope you get yourself sorted cookie - like you say, it's the time for cooking replacements etc that's the buggest problem isn't it!
