Mid-Sussex Residents/Shoppers - PETITION!

If you have tried to park in one of the district's car parks recently you'll have noticed the new parking meters. They require you to enter your car's registration number which is then printed on your ticket, thus preventing you from passing your ticket on to any other car park users.

This is totally immoral and unfair!!

1. If someone buys a ticket, it entitles the use of that space for the pre-paid amount of time. It should not make a difference what car is parked there - if the space has been paid for, that should be the end of it! We should be encouraging friendly, neighbourly interaction i.e. passing on a ticket we have paid for to another user and asking nothing in return.

2. The machines are extremely complicated to use and the digital display is very small, hard to read and virtually impossible to see in bright sunshine. I am pretty good with technology and it still took me a good 5 mins to get a ticket out of one of the new meters. This causes queues and frustration.

3. The council have wasted £130,000 of our hard-earned cash on installing these meters. I went into Burgess Hill 2 weeks ago, it was a busy Saturday morning and the meter had actually broken down so was useless anyway. We should have a say on how they spend our money!!

4. Local shops will suffer because people will shop online, or pick up shopping from larger, out-of-town stores. This will have an adverse effect on the local ecomony.

5. The ludicrous pricing system remains in place, e.g. 80p, £1.40 etc. Not a problem in itself, but when the machines don't give change it is plain to see they are just ripping us off!

As you can tell, I am pretty wound up about the new system! If you agree, I urge you to sign the online petition set up by a local resident (not me!) at:

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/midsussexparking/index.html

Even if you don't pay your council tax to Mid-Sussex, if you regularly shop/park in Haywards Heath or Burgess Hill THIS AFFECTS YOU!! So please please do sign because it might just make all ths difference.

Equally, if you are happy with the new parking system it goes without saying that I respect everybody's opinion, and for anyone who may have been offended by this post I offer my sincere apologies.
