Telogram ; Doorstep Agents ???

Hi

I recently received a letter bearing H L Legal Solicitors letter head asking me to contact CapQuest or Telogram about my address. I google and found this site and hope someone can help me. I am an International Student and i have got no idea what the heck is this letter about, although it has my name in it.

Letter :

Dear Miss XXXX,

we act for telogram limited who in turn act on behalf of capquest investments limited and are instructed that our clients have attempted to make contact with you at the above address but have received no response or communications from you.

we have been informed that our client has correspond with you with regard to information that was received from a major referencce bureau that indicated that this is the correct address for you.

it is necessary for you to contact our client on 01252 ****** at the earliest oppurtunity to establish whether information our client holds is relevant to yourself and we will then be able to bring this matter to a conclusion.

if no response is received by [date] our client will then report back to capquest investments limited that they have been unable to confirm that the information supplied by equifax is incorrect.

as a consequence, we have been informed that one of capquest invesments limited group companies capquest debt recovery or its doorstep agents, scotcall will be contacting you on or after [date]

to stop this action you must contact our client on 01252 **** quoting reference ****** by date so that this information can be verified.

Yours faithfully

H L Legal

I am staying at the address and my name is correct BUT i have no recollection of debt. Is this a legal proceeding against me? I am just a student over in UK and i do not want any of these to affect my record whatsoever. What is this letter about? Any advise on what should be done?

Thanks!!

Debt Collecting Agencies trawl databases looking for debtors who have gone away and re-surfaced elsewhere. Such letters are then sent to the new address or sometimes the address of someone with the same name or fits the profile.

Your choice on what to do. Either ignore it or phone them to try and sort it out.

Also get copies of your credit reports to see what has been put against your name.

From what I've read on these boards DO NOT PHONE THEM!!!!

They're an unscrupulous bunch by all the accounts.

Bin the letter, they're looking for anyone they can bamboozle into paying debts, whether or not they're theirs or valid.
