I've been a Halifax current account holder for more than ten years, i've been in my £500 overdraft limit for about 7 years of it though. My credit rating (i believe) is pretty good, i pay my bills on time every month without fail, etc; etc. I currently earn around £18,000 per year.
I'm looking to take out a loan for around £5,000 and want to try Halifax first. Would this be a good idea and would i have a better chance of getting a loan because i already have an account with them?
If not what other companies can be recommended to me?

  • I think your way of looking at things is spot on.
Have a look online first though as some banks offer a better rate to online customers than in branch.

  • You wont get the loan due to always dipping into your overdraft. So try a different bank.

This is not true...Banks love people who borrow their money, but borrow responsibly. This is how they make money!!

As your credit rating is good, I'm sure you could get a loan anywhere. Maybe try somewhere else, if you get rejected go back to Halifax. Beware though too many rejections look bad. Oh, why don't you apply for your credit reports from Experian etc.
