Who here has claimed for benefits but not got them?

I have been on the phone to the benefits help line. Very bad experience, very rude to me, spoke down to me and told me that I am never going to get anything apart from Income Support, which will be, because I have savings £12 a week.

What exactly is £12 a week going to do?

I am interested to know if anyone else has claimed but not received any benefits but truly feel that they should.

I believe I should as I cannot work, but probably dont meet everyting they are asking for on the form.

All who have had similar experience please post.

Thanks

why cant you live of your savings there is a rule that says if you have more than £3000 you will not get benifit.once your savings have gone you should be able to get benifit.

Because what happens when it comes back up to £3000, you are ment to be encouraged to save, not spend all your money.

Do you mean to say that you will only get benifits if you spend all your money first?
  • what are your circumstances?
are claiming/trying to claim as a single person or as part of a couple?
do you have any children under 16yo?
    disabilities?

I have a severliy curved spine, I was in an office Job a while back but in that time I was off work for 6 months due to my back, I was crawling everywhere. Spent all the days lying down.

I have tried to claim for some kind of support as I have decided that going back into an office is no good at all for me. I was only working part time when this all happened anyway.

I have had a curved spine since birth but in recent times it has got worse. I can barely sit down now for 10 mins without the whole of my left side gong numb and hurting and standing up is a real problem now to.

I live at home with my parents and am 22.

So claiming as a single person with no children.

have you claimed dissability liviing allowance.
  • You can claim Income Support if you have savings under £8000 not £3000 as previously quoted. If your savings are over £3000 then £1 is deducted for every extra £250 or part of. Eg £3000 would be £1 off your benefit. £3500 would be £2 off your benefit. This is called tariff income.

The personal allowance for a 22 year old is £44.50.

You should claim Disability Living Allowance (DLA) by phoning 08457 123456. If you are awarded this then you would be entitled to extra money on your Income Support because of a disability premium. Your DLA income is also fully disregarded.

A bit of good news though is that the saving limit is going up in April 2006 and you can also have more money before tariff income is applied.

I have claimed for dissability liviing allowance but didnt get it. I am reclaming though.

I am also getting N.I credits for Incapacity, these are of no use to me, the women on the phone said that they go towards my retirement....Im 22!

I asked why im getting N.I credits and not money she said because you havent worked enough to have paid N.I contributions.....I CANT WORK does no one get that!

I am interested to know though if anyone else thinks they should have got it but where denied.

NI credits are very useful, their covering your record whilst you are unable to work. It means you dont get to pension age (I know its 43 yrs away) and find you have no pension, a lot of people get their and dont't have anything.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

    £6000
The limit for care home occupants remains £10,000.
From 1 April 2006, assess both new and existing claims using the new lower capital limit.
4 Tariff income remains at the same level, ie customers are treated as having tariff income of £1.00 a week for each £250 or part thereof over £6,000.
Note: These regulations only apply to people aged under 60. The tariff income level for people aged 60 or over is £500.
