but Powergen don't appear to understand me. Just got off a 40 minute phonecall where they still didn't get what I was trying to say.
Powergen raised prices 1st Sept.
My bill was an estimate, so I got a new one issued.
The old bill had a proportion of 11:1, old price:new price
The new bill has a proportion of 6:1, old price: new price.
I am not querying the amount of m^3 used.
I am querying why the proportion has shifted so dramatically in their favour.
They do not seem to understand what I was saying and kept telling me it was because of the period of time between the 2 bills. This should shift the proportion of new to old a little, but not that much.
Any ideas on how I can get them to understand?
Am considering paying what I think the bill should be, with supporting calculations, and let them chase me for the rest, but I know this will end up making me look like a bad payer.
What should I do?

When you get them on phone you must ask them to compare at least a year of usage, because summer you dont have the heating on??? When i rang up my company they used to ask do you have a swimming pool or Heated green house, that made alarm bells ring, after i got them to check over a long period my bills were reduced, Then i changed supplier.0

I had a similar problem with BG some while ago; and a similar problem getting them to understand the point.
I have 4 accounts(2 gas and 2 electricity)On one account they estimated that I used 51% of the gas consumed in a period of 179 days and that the remaining 49% was consumed over a period of 8 days - naturally the 49% was at the new price. The other 3 estimations were all in BG's favour but not in such a marked manner.
The lady in the call centre said it was the computer!!
Got it sorted eventually but took ages.0 -
Here's the figures
Estimated bill
225m^3 used at old price
17m^3 used at new price
My readings
128m^3 used at old price
23m^3 used at new price
Both times powergen have estimated where the gas meter was on 1/9/05 when price changed.
I know it only boils down to about £5-£10 more to pay, but I shouldn't have to because of shoddy calculations and I don't want to let them get away with it. The length of discussion means that they haven't had this sort of query much.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

How many people look closely at the bill?
How many people understand its implications?
How many people will bother to complain?
I am convinced it is a deliberate policy to make an extra few pounds from most customers, knowing they will get away with it. If someone complains they will refund but I would guess just a tiny percentage of 'ripped off' customers will complain.0
