Council Tax

Right, will try and be brief.
Moved into rented flat on 30th August 2005.
Just finally got stupid council people to send us a council tax bill (god knows why I have to chase them so much to get a bill for £850 out of them).
Bill comes and is starting from 30th July which is a month before I moved in. Should I just ring them and tell them we weren't in there then and they will change the bill to start from 30th August?
Problem 2 - Flat is on a 6 month contract and we're not sure if we'll stay or go in 6 months. Our council tax is calculated for 1 year requiring 5 payments over the next 5 months then nothing for the other 7 months. That means we'll be paying 1 years council tax for 6 months in the flat. Will we get the other 6 months refunded back if we move out after 6 months?
Thanks
M

Yes definitely give them a ring - you can get the answer to both your questions from the horses mouth. I would also write to them recorded delivery re the month that you weren't there, just to make sure they record the info from you. I would think you get a rebate if you move out, don't forget to inform them if you do!Torgwen..........
