Hi i need some advice please 1)i have just been into work for my keys for tonights shift and i have been told that i need to book 2 weeks holidays as soon as possible otherwise the manageress will designate my dates to me! i have taken 1 week off already leaving me with 3 surely she isn't allowed to do this ? i asked for a long weekend in august as we were going for a weekend away but she says i have to have the week before or the week after.
she's a bit off a fibber too she says managers dont work weekends but i checked in other stores who's management have told me that is rediculous so i'm guessing she's probably going to tell me her boss has made her say that!
the other thing is if i get another job on top of this one will i have to pay over the odds in tax? i need to top up my income as me and my partner are looking to buy a house after the next 6 months im contracted to work 25 hours where i am now and i have seen a job advertising 20 hours a week that i'd like to apply for is it going to be worth it or not?

It could be true if you have outstanding holiday some companies require you to take it before the 'year end' but it does seem suspicious. Can you ask anyone else, perhaps an assistant manager or a colleague for their opinion?
Also I believe your tax is calculated on how much you earn rather than whether you have two jobs or not so we'd need to know how much you earn now/would earn to know whether it's worth your while

Your tax is cumulative, but it's likely you will pay basic rate in the second job if you're paying tax in your current one. Best bet is to fill out a P46 (you can download it) and get it in to the new job, then let the tax office decide how best to split up your allowance.
As for the holidays, companies can compel you to use up your leave by an anniversary date - the Working Time Directive from memory doesn't allow any rollover of allowances.0
