Seasonal frugality

Has anyone else noticed this?
During the summer months, I seem to be less frugal, and tend to blow money on things.
But then come autumn/winter, I suddenly get bouts of frugality and moneysaving again. Is this something to do with a primitive urge to store up stuff for the winter, like a squirrel?
Of course it doesn't help now that 'Foyle's War' is on tellie, which gets me in the mood for rationing style recipes!

see i'm the opposite, i spend all my weekend in the summer watching cricket, so the urge to spend isn't there. come winter, i love to shop more, and the food bill goes up too.0 -
I find it goes at random - if I spend too much one month/quarter I try to make up for it in the next few months.
At the moment I am extremely skint because we had the front of the house done and we will have another big builders' bill once the plastering inside is done too (it really needed doing!).
To top it all, I spent quite a lot (frugally but still an added expense) with the family trip to Italy.
And Christmas is around the corner!
Just as well I have this lovely forum to keep me encouraged!
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
I do have a real problem with spending at this time of the year. Trouble is. . .I go Christmas shopping and then see all things I've been missing by keeping away from the shops for the rest of the year. Suddenly it becomes soooo easy to add another CD or whatever (for me) - and so it goes on.
Trying really hard to do nearly all of it on the internet this year . . . but my Wish List at Amazon has to be seen to be believed :-/0 -
I'm with you Austin,
I blow money in the summer and resent every penny I spend in autumn/winter.......not sure why?
May have something to do with the children being off school.......ours are off for nine weeks......and I want to give them a good time, then spend the rest of the year feeling guilty about how much it cost. Yet come the end of spring, off I go again!

Personally I think its because I'm indoors more in the winter, and make more time to look at budgets & bank statements etc... especially when its time to find money for presents etc. Also, all our family seem to have autumn/winter birthdays.....0

I'm the opposite, I spend nothing in the Summer, maybe because I live right by the sea!
Wintertime, as well as Xmas, there are eight birthdays of children, parents, etc so they all need presents as well as cards, and this year my daughter is 18 next week, and my nephew is 21 in December! ARGH!I Believe in saving money!!!:T
