currently on JSA- any study help avaialble?

I would like to go for an accounts type (maybe AAT or ICM?) course, but cannot afford it- does anyone know where / how I can get help with fees (grant? loan?) while out of work?

also, when I do get a job, are these repayable- straight away, or at all?

many thanks.

  • Check with your local college, they normally have 3 price tiers.
    Full payment,
    16-19yr olds,
    Means tested (JSA etc)

I think it's alot less that 1/2 price, plus the jobcentre may make up some of the cost!

    Good luck!

I know that you should be able to get some free tuition from local authority colleges. Also, you can apply for a grant from the jobcentre - this is called an Advisory Discretionary Grant and it is paid from the Advisor Discretionary Fund usually to a max of £100 but if you put a darn good case forward you may be able to get more.

You should be eligible by virtue of being on JSA but also if you are looking to study AAT and do not have any qualifications at that level, you may also be eligible for the fees to be paid. Check the college prospectus and also speak to the AAT Course Leader....
(I was in a full time OK paid job but "didn't have" above 'O' Levels and thanks to a talk with the Course Leader, was offered funding for a place to study AAT - cost around £500 per year. Also exams fees and AAT registration paid.)

    Good luck.

    What do I know?

  • I was told (by my local Job Centre) that Learn Direct courses are free if you are signing on. They might be able to help.
