During June www.greatlittleadventures.co.uk are giving away four full length Horrid Henry stories read by the brilliant Miranda Richardson. You have to register on the site but it's free and has tons of ideas for family travel - lots of which are either free or very cheap.

Just to save everyone else the effort of registering with this website...you need to register with them and then simply get re-routed to
http://www.audible.co.uk/greatlittleadventures
where you have to sign-up with audible as well.... you can simply do this direct and avoid the first registration...
When you have signed up you need to install audible's software on your computer to allow the download (which is where I drew the line - even though I know that audible is highly reputable I just don't want additional software on my pc)Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. But set fire to him and he's warm for the rest of his life. - Terry Pratchett, Discworld

Audible is fully compatible with Nero (so you can burn the audiobooks on to CD) and also with iTunes (so you can listen to them on an iPod) - but I haven't so far found a way of converting the Audible Audio files (their filenames end in .aa) to standard mp3 format. So if anyone knows a way of doing that, I'd be most grateful if you could tell me!
Thanks for the tip-off - I'll certainly be downloading the book! :beer:0 -
Thanks Eddi. As I understand it you need to install software to make it work in iTunes (and most likely any other application) and if they offered a wider range of free books I would gladly install it.
If you burn a cd, the files should be converted into an audio compatible format (.wav etc.). You should then be able to rip the CD back to your computer in whatever format you want to..(you'll lose something in the encode-decode-re-encode process but it should'nt be noticable)Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. I downloaded it, no problem.
It may ask you to download software, but I skipped that option and went straight to the audiobook download. When it opened in iTunes, it asked for my Audible username/password and then converted the file to mp3, which has since been transferred to my iPod.0 -

You can't download into iTunes without having the audible download manager installed:p, otherwise you would simply download the .pl file to your PC. I'm not saying not to download it - I just don't want to....:rolleyes:Give a man a fire and he's warm for the day. Good points Wavey Davy and worth bearing in mind. The Great Little Adventures site is still worth checking out though as it's got quite a few ideas for cheapie / free things to do and places to eat that actually serve children lovely food but which don't cost the earth.0

There only seems to be 1 book available for download - how do I get the others?
ThanksTo infinity and beyond!0 -
If you sign up to Audible first on a 14 day free trial, you get two extra free books. Go through Quidco to do it, and you should get £4.
So, thanks to the OP, I now have Horid Henry, along with the best of Just William, and three Thomas The Tank engine stories - enough to keep all three of my boys quiet for a while - for freeDFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0
