Just seen this on bigpockets for £199 including carry case

Dell D600 Centrino 1.6Ghz Laptop, 512Mb RAM, 30, CDRW/DVD, NIC, 56K Modem,Wi Fi, XP Pro COA.

I think it is re-furbished stock but comes with 4months dell warranty they also have a lot of batgains on CD'S dvd'S and carry cases.

I am no expert either but I cant find a better deal on Dell.

I would say this laptop is ideal for the internet and general home in fact anything but gaming. It is very cheap especially with XP pro and a carry case.

I'd wait until Dixons, PCWORLD or Currys have they're reburbished line updated and get a year warranty. These deals start at £199.99 or go into PCWORLD for managers specials at that price.
