it's been the same code for months...they were advertising that code in the papers for boxing earlier in the year.

I seriously wouldn't bother if I were you. I did this but on 3rd month they charged me £10 and when I rang to ask why and to cancel they said I had to make another payment next month despite giving them 30 days notice. They couldn't give me a reason why they charged me the £10 for the third month and told me to write to head office. So I just cancelled my direct debit so they couldn't take another £10 off me!

If you do go for it, good luck as you will find they have done the same to many people on MSE.

Before subscribing to Setanta I suggest you Google "cancel setanta" and read some of the tales of woe on digitalspy and, indeed, MSE.

I have one word for you all
    AVOID

I would really not go with this JOKE of a company. It's taking 3 letters and loads of threats to cancel and that is not even done yet.

I entirely understand why some are advising to avoid Setanta, having experienced the consequences of Setanta not answering or processing cancellation correspondence.

However, I also understand that some will also wish to enjoy their sports coverage, despite any reservations about their customer service.

Therefore, I would advise that if people do choose to subscribe to Setanta, keep control of payments, by using direct debit rather than a continuous credit card authorisation, wherever possible. I have a dispute with Setanta, but at least the money is in my account rather than theirs!

Also, keep track of the terms & conditions (http://subscribe.setanta.servecast.com/setanta/popup_terms_sat.html), and, if in doubt assume that Setanta will interpret them in their favour.

Be aware that Setanta can change some terms & conditions without individually notifying you, by posting them on their website and at least 2 national newspapers.

Especially watch for any changes to Setanta's customer service adresses, as this appears to have been at the root of some disputes.

Note, that the terms & condition changed on 1/6/08 (although they cannot be applied to existing subscribers before giving one month's notice).

The changes extend the notice period for cancellation, to 2 months, for most subscribers.

Trying to look at it positively, I think that the most likely outcome, is that Setanta management will recognize in time, through the consequences to their business, that a reputation for fairness, transparency and good customer service, is more important than the smallprint of a contract.

They have virtually nothing to gain, afterall, from disputes over small sums of money, that then act as a barrier to people re-subscribing.
