Default notices standard procedure?

Hi all,
I have contacted all my creditors to inform them of my current financial difficulties. I have sent my statement out to them but have had differing reactions to it. Some have instructed debt collectors, others have been more understanding.
The one thing I'm unsure about is that despite my contacting them all in late Feb and then submitting my statement, I have received Default notices from them all.
Is this really standard procedure when you have written to your creditor to explain your situation and ask that they hold all action for at least 28 days? Charges are being added on an almost daily basis by some of them, and even the DCA's are trying to get the proverbial blood out of this stone.
I have no idea if this is the way things are done, or if my naiivity is the cause.
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
xx

Hi.
Just giving you a bump up for starters.
Are you managing your affairs yourself, or are you going through Payplan/CCCS?
From experience, the moment I wrote to my creditors, those that weren't already sold on to a DCA soon were. DCA's also seem more likely to freeze interest as well, but after reading a few threads on here it's taking a bit more persuasion.:rotfl:I'm Cosmo, Cosmo Kramer! :rotfl:0 -
Hi Katy,
thanks for the response.
I am currently managing my own affairs as I have a dispute with the Local Authority over their refusal to accept a discount on the Council Tax my home. My MP is working on that for me, but as I am technically in arrears on my Council Tax until the decision on my appeal is reached, I make payments to avoid court action. CCCS won't take my case as the priority debt "has to be cleared" before they can do so.........not very helpful really....I wish someone would explain how a priority debt, (that requires their help & assistance) can exclude me from getting help with other creditors.............maybe it's just me but it seems ironic!
I still don't know if I have to accept these default notices without question.
Any help would be appreciated.
