Due to over-stocking Just In Case for Christmas baking, I am only just now coming to the end of the flour I had stored away (yes, I bought that much in). And wow, when you haven't needed plain OR self-raising flour for five months? Your eyes kind've go wide at how much the price went up when you weren't looking.
So, where's cheapest? Any offers on? I don't mind if it's 'value' flour, I just need it as cheap as I can get it.
(just under two bags of each left. Tempted to eke it out in case an offer comes along or prices drop back down.)

i go to Sainsbury's for flour to make bread (strong) and that is 49p for a 1 1/2 kilo bag.
one of the main reasons for the price of flour going up is because farmers have been growing crops like rape seed and those type of crops to make bio fuels and they have been planting less cereal crops so there is a shortage and the prices go up.0 -
tesco's have SR and plain value flour for 36p for 1.5kg and their strong bread flour is still 48-49p for 1.5kg, last time i was in sainsburys their strong bread flour was up to 96p for 1.5kg
the tesco value flour is fab, i'd recommend sieving tho, you do get the odd bit of huskNonny mouse and Proud!!
Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience!!

Blimey, last time I bought value flour it was around 9p.0

36p? I'm sure my Tesco had it for 75p. That was partly why I was staring so much in shock.
Hm, I wonder if the shelf I saw was mispriced. May have to check the other Tesco.0 -
I have used Sainsbury's strong white flour for some years for beadmaking. In contrast to most own-brand bread flours it's a very high 13.5% protein content (it's this measure that indicates "strength" as in "stong white") as opposed to around 12% for the others. You'd have to pay a lot more for such a stength with any other brand such as Allinson's Very Strong.i go to Sainsbury's for flour to make bread (strong) and that is 49p for a 1 1/2 kilo bag
Although the Sainsbury online price is 89p, I believe that all branches will more or less price-match Tesco, whose standard-strength strong flour is selling at 48p.0 -
I got some white flour (value) at w/e for 34p!!!
