Mobile Phone Problem

I lost my mobile on a night out and someone found it and ran up a £500 phone bill. I contacted Orange who said that it was my fault because i didn't cancel the phone quickly. The bill was run up in a matter of hours, before i had a chance to cancel it.
I have contacted CISAS (ombudsman), who are looking into it. I'm worried they will come back and say I have to pay.
Does anyone know what I can do should they say I have to pay? I really can't afford it!!!!!

Cancel your DD with your bank so they can't take it while you are complaining about it. It's easy enough to re set up after.Cashback Sites

Be very careful about cancelling your DD. They could record missed payments or a default and this would negatively impact your credit file.
Do you have phone insurance? If it's been reported with 24 hours, some policies will pay for unauthorised calls.
Looking quickly at previous cases, it looks like some people have come to some sort of agreement with the network and have had the bill reduced or in some cases waived.
