Hi, I'm looking for some hints and tips to curb my wanton spending :rotfl:Shopping appears to be my main hobby and I worked out a budget last week but it doesn't even touch the sides of my spending.

This has slipped so I can't read it properly.

Is that £75pm for the phone  and £300pm for holidays/ £200pm for Christmas?

These seem very high - but I could be mis-reading things!

Also, is the £160 food etc just for you? I think others will be along shortly to suggest that this may be a bit high if it's for one. They'll also suggest the Old Style board!
A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

    CHALLENGES

    2025 Declutter:
    1 CONTAINER (box/bag/folder etc) per day; 50/365
1 FROG (minimum) per week; 6/52
WEIGHT I'll start with 25 lbs (though I need to lose more!) and see how it goes...🤔 0/25

    2025 NSDs: 15 per MONTH - FEB 4/15; JAN 21/15
    2025 Fashion on the Ration: (carried over from 2024) 10+66 = 76
2025 Make Do, Mend & Minimise No target, just remember to report!

Hi, it is a bit difficult to read but I can't work out how to insert a text box into the document.

The £200 is for magazines and newspapers and it is annual and the £300 is for xmas and it is also annual. As for the food I have started doing the cambrige plan which is £40pw but that covers all food. I could go much cheaper if I was buying food. The £75pm for the phone is the landline, mobile and broadband rolled into one.

I got it to £931 per month.

Maybe you should use what you have saved up to start to clear your credit cards....and is the gas & electricity based on estimated or actual readings for the winter?

There is absolutely nothing in the savings account, it goes into my A&L savers account and then I usually transfer it out again near the end of the month. The gas and electricity are actual readings.

I'm not sure how you get the outgoings to £931pcm unless I have taken something out when I edited it. The outgoings are closer to £2000pcm but I will check it again.

If I were you, I'd do another version of your budget with all the figures monthly (or all annual), because by jumping between the two it is difficult for you to get a picture in your head of what you can afford to spend on each area per month.

Yes, I was going to say this. And I have done, so that the thread gets bumped! :rotfl:
