Bank Statements & Housing Benefit?

Re providing bank statements for HB, is there any way you can ask your bank to send only "ingoing" transactions on a printout ? We live in a very rural area and all the council staff are known to us, some friends of my children work there as well , and the DH isnt at all happy about people "raking through his money" as he calls it !:D

  • Can you not black out what the outgoing transactions were?

Not the amounts of them but just what you bought/paid for.

I am sure they are only really interested in your balance and income.

I am sure someone will give you a definitive answer but I wouldnt personally see this as a problem.

im tempted to ask that too :rotfl:

you could always get the permanent marker out on your purchases but then if i worked there that would make me want to look :D

i understand what you're saying but they see so many i dont really think they'll pay any attention.

but yes in answer to your question, im almost certain it is only your income they want to see, and to check you dont have a lot of money in there (that would class as savings), so get the print outs from your bank.

You need to produce full statements, not just details of incoming amounts.

Your husband has no objection to someone paying his rent for him, so how can he object to that same person being aware of his financial affairs?

I agree, if you wish to claim benefits then you have to be prepared to follow the procedure. You cant pick and choose what you will show them.

ok was just asking !! and dmg24, - dont look at it that way . If my husband has worked all his days and now got ill, then this is his right, fought and struggled for by generations of unions !! -- he has paid enough into the system in his lifetime.

The people at the council offices are working to policies and procedures that will not or should not allow them to read and then spout off your business. The Data Protection act will have been shoved down their throats over and over again so you should be ok although I do understand how you feel. Just give them a ring and ask exactly what they want to see on your statement.

As for the negative comments you are getting just ignore them. You have asked for help not to be judged.

    Good Luck

It is not about how long he has paid into the system, particularly in the case of HB, which is not contributions based.

You cannot expect to be paid means tested benefits without the authorities being aware of your means. It is not about judgment, it is about following correct procedure. The rules apply to everyone, and there is no reason why you should be an exception.

i dont want to be judgemental, but,if you want the benefits then you have to be prepared to play by the rules
These people see many many bank statements over the course of a week/month whatever, and are only looking to see any income and what savings you have, outgoings dont matter, but statements with these blanked out or not shown would immediately alert them and a far more thorough investigation would follow
