Hi Claire
I was about to call my mom but noticed RAS's post. Mom got PoA over my nans dealing before then so would be pointless asking her.
Sorry I can't help you any further.
Best wishes and hope your FIL recovers.

Hi,
First of all I would like to offer my sympathy at this difficult time.
We went through something very similar over Christmas so I do understand how distressing and emotional it can be.
It is important, however, not to let people take advantage of this situation or of you. For instance, what is the worst that can happen if you don't tackle your relatives debts? I can't answer this - it was to late for us - but I suspect that it isn't going to be too bad.
Also, keep in mind, that should the worst happen regarding health and there is no estate to speak of then the debts disappear unless you have taken them on yourself.
I hope that this doesn't come across as heartless simply offering an alternative viewpoint that may prove beneficial.
