Co-op Bank - any experience of them?

Is anyone else on here in the process of taking out a mortgage with the Co-op Bank? What are you experiences of them? Sent my completed application back to them 4 weeks ago now and have heard nothing..........

Give them a call to chase them up.

We brought our house in December and were first time buyers. We took a fixed deal with Co-Op and have found them fantastic. I'd give them a call to chase or pop into your local branch. One of the great things is there's a branch very local to us which is open on Staurdays - fantastic because we work office hours and can never get to the banks in the week.
  • I've had my mortgage with them for 4 years and have had no problems swapping my mortgage product(twice) and customer service is second to none, in my opinion.

    Thanks.
Have called them so many times now and all they can say is they have received my completed form but it's in a very long queue waiting to be looked at. It's quite frustrating knowing that an organisation like the Nationwide BS would take approx 10 working days to review and decide on an application but with Co-op it takes them so long. Saying that the Nationwide doesn't have attractive deals at the moment (for me anyway). Hope the person I am buying from doesn't get too twitchy given the seemingly long wait.

We don't have a local branch so can't even go in to see them personally each week/day/hour!

How long did it take you to go through the process with them?

Very quick! I rang C S,told them which product I was interested in. Received paperwork several days later to read through and sign, a letter of comfirmation was received a couple of days after returning paperwork. Mortgage product was swapped at end of current deal, no problem what so ever.

Think your best giving C S a call, to check everything ok.

I did an application with Co-op at the beginning of March for a client who earned £250k p.a, wanted a mortgage of £150k on a property worth £550k.

Not exactly a high risk case.

It took them 2 weeks to look at the case (constant chasing we were told "we are looking at it")- they then returned the paperwork to me to say we weren't on their panel of introducers. After proving that we WERE on their panel they got the paperwork back but it went into a 2 week queue again, with not discretion to jump the queue seeing how they had cocked up.

Subsequent chasing etc and we finally got a mortgage offer at the beginning of May, 2 months after it was originally submitted. Unfortunately I couldn't take the mortgage elsewhere as my customers wanted a penalty free traditional mortgage, and the rates had increased dramatically in the 2 weeks following the original submission date.

Needless to say I won't be enduring the embarrassment of using them again

They don't have many brokers on their introducer panel - so in some ways I might be considered lucky!! but for an ethical lender to be probably one of the last lenders around to be still using paper based applications, I find quite laughable!!

Thanks for this reply. I think things have changed dramatically for them in the last 2 months or so. Assume you must have done your changes before the current finance fiasco. I'll call them again anyway.

My last product change was very recent, but I'm already a mortgage and banking customer so there isn't the need to complete background checks etc, hope your application is resolved quickly.
