I thought I had started an entire new thread with half a million replies in my sleep or something!
Very confusing. I don't think merging threads was a good idea!0 -

Ok my feedback would be: due to the way that people use forums is different from how you would like to think people use forums it makes sense to have a more dynamic approach.
Merging an old discussion with a new one confuses the participants of the discussion as there are now two unique dialogues happening in one place where they used to have their own 'thread'
People tend to start new threads, rather than search for relevant threads and tag questions on at the end. As we think that very few people will read such an old and over populated thread.
Given that the original threads are only loosely related (one is about beer, the other is about cider. Both of which require vastly different ingredients and processes) merging the threads in this specific case does not make sense.
Moreover anyone who was watching the original brewing beer thread will now not be able to locate it.
Anyway, I hope that clears a few things up.

I am pondering having a bash at brewing my own ale, if I could get close to Greene King's Abbots Ale that would be ale-mongous, but, merely drinkable would be a more realistic start.
Has anyone cracked this art with any degree of success? Where, or what is the best brewing 'kit' to get for example?
If Neil Morrissey and his mate can produce something vaguely resembling ale then I'm pretty sure I can...:rotfl:"If you are going through Hell, keep going" - Winston Churchill0 -

We used to make beer from kits, when Boots sold them. Take a look on line and there are lots of kits available.
We have an existing thread on making beer (it starts off fermenting cider, but look later and it moves onto beer), so as this has fallen from the front page of OS, I'll add it to that one to give you more ideas.

There is a website HERE that will have you making superb beer in no time.
Click on the green squares to the right of where it says Jims Beer Kit, to get started.
They are a nice bunch of brewers and you may even find ME posting in there.:D
The new modern kits are FAR better than the muck we used to make years ago.
I would recomend any of the coopers kits to start, easy and tasty.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0
