Debt free is how I want to be

Hi everyone,
Currently I owe £17037.55p which includes a bank loan and a credit card. Over the years I have looked at the forum yet until now I have done nothing about my own situation until today. Things are about to change. I know that it will take me longer than a couple of years to pay it off but my aim is to be debt free by the time i am 35 (I am 29 at the moment). If I can pay it back before then that will be great. I hope that you guys who are also burdened with debt will tag along as it will help lots.

Sounds a bit daft maybe but I have written down what I owe on a bit of paper and stuck it where I can see it in my purse, puts you off when you see something you like but don't need. :j

    Hi.
    Welcome.
Good idea sticking a bit of paper in your purse. I've got post-it notes stuck on my fridge reminding me not to spend more on food than I need to. I have another coloured post-it on my fridge which is my shopping list. I write down stuff I run out of then take the post it shopping with me once a week then I don't spend on unnecessary stuff. Saves me decorating too, brightly coloured post-it notes work wonders!

You'll get lots of support here. Keep posting. Can you post an SOA so we can all help you to save money so that you can pay off your debts more quickly?

Welcome Sortingfunds and congratulations on the LBM. :T

There's loads of people on DFW who are all lovely and will be along with lots of brilliant advise, but please just beware of trolls......see the sticky at the top of the forum. They're nasty people with nothing better to do than putting people down. If you get a post from one of them please don't be put off.....they'll be reported and removed.

Good luck with becoming debt free.....I myself have got just under 2 years left, and then I can hopfully afford some kids (don't tell the OH though! )

    Hi all,

Well thank you for the nice welcome i know i am not the only one and it spurs you on, well so far I am going to be £100.00 better off that I can pay off my debt with :T. I am setting up a standing order towards my loan so that it gets paid automatically off as well as my minimum payment. I have switched all my insurances and cleared my HP finance so that saves me another £40.00 a month. So I am feeling very positive about it. Will keep you updated and good luck to you all too we will do it!

P.S. I am now writing all that I spend every day in my normal diary (didn't buy a new one as it was a waste of money lol) really notice it more and I am doing well.
    SO FAR SO GOOD

    Hiya & welcome,

Try out www.spendingdiary.com it's really given me a nastily clear picture of where my money goes ;)
