I just keep them in date order, generally a month then staple together as I do a page on my book each month. One side In - t'other side Out. I keep the receipts etc in a ziplock bag. HTH.

PS Just off to do one of my jobs now, dear old gent, lost his wife to cancer few years ago. I do all sorts for him. Painting, sewing curtains, resourcing curtains on freecycle as his are all falling apart. Its great, and lots of chatting and cups of tea! I am so fond of my clients too :)

I only use this account for my cleaning jobs and will bank all money I earn.
I know it might seem alot of faffing about but my bank is only 10 minute walk away and I wanted to be able to show some way of recording what I was earning.
If I put it in my current account I will have to start trawling through statements etc when I do my tax return.
I just fill my sheet in each week and pay the money in.
I was going to do it monthly but I know I will dip into it if it's in the house.
I also keep receipts for any cleaning materials I buy and will take out £5 per month for these.
This is just my way of doing things and might seem a bit OTT but I feel I can keep a track of things this way.
I love working for myself and wouldn't swap it for the world.
It's all part of my plan to downshift to a simpler lifestyle.
I've done the corporate job with the suit and briefcase and the swap has been life changing I can tell you.
I also do mystery shopping for Grassroots and have that paid into the same account.
    Good luck.
This will then tally with a weekly sheet I keep, stating the job I have done, where and how much I received.
I also include how many miles it is, as from what I understand, you can put this at 40p per mile against the cost of doing the job onto your tax return.

yeah i keep a track of mileage aswell and you're right it is 40p per mile. is there a specific website you use to work out how far the mileage is? or can we just use any online mapping service? sorry for all the questions, i just dont want to get it wrong!

    I just use google maps.
I print one out and keep that with my other bits to back up my mileage just in case anyone wants to check the figures.
I will also be including money for ink cartridge and paper for when/if I need to do any flyers to advertise my business.
I'm sure there will be other bits and bobs that we can legitmately include so if anyone knows of any please let us know.
Thrilled that this post has been useful.

Hey hope this helps. I used the AA route planner. Put in their post code as to and then yours as from and it works out exactly how many miles the journey is. That is how I worked mine out. That way I only charge for my business miles and dont have to worry about personal use etc. And at 40p a mile - bout time they put that up -SCREAMS:eek:
