Decent Budget Hotel in London?

Hi all,

I'm flying to London next month with OH. We'll be staying in London for 4 nights before moving north to sunny Scotland.

Can anyone recommend a decent budget hotel in the city centre?

I had a horrific experience in a London hotel before (in Oxford Circus - I forget the name). The non-smoking room stank of smoke, it was dirty, there was no running water from the sink, windows could not be opened (not even slightly!) and the staff were less than helpful. I am not keen to repeat that particular experience!

Somewhere cheap and clean (no thrills required) would be fantastic!

  • I stayed at the California Hotel in King's Cross a couple of years ago and it was great for the price - £30 - £40 per night per room with breakfast included (again this was great too)

    Hi Pinklipgloss :)

You could try the Comfort Inn, also in Kings Cross - with rooms from £54 per night. I've stayed there twice with no problems.

I've stayed here http://www.hydeparktowershotel.com/index.html in January, cost was about £60 per night with an excellent breakfast and friendly service. Room was quite small and bathroom even smaller but more than adequate and the convenient location and friendly staff more than made up for the size of the room.

I booked via alpharooms http://www.alpharooms.com/ and it was about £10 cheaper than it showed on the hotel website at the time of booking although the hotel say it will "price match".
