Urine dip sticks to check for Diabetes

Does anyone know if you can purchase the urine dip sticks to check for diabetes.

My family has diabetes and I often feel as if I am displaying symptoms but my GP is very dismissive when I ask about testing me and I am getting a bit conscious of becoming a pain, and would sooner check when I am concerned at home and then take in any evidence if I have any to the doctor.

Do you know where I can purchase some of these?

Boots sell Keto Diastix which have glucose measurements on them.

But I think Lloyds Chemists do a free check, as I'm sure your doc will if you ask to see another doc at the practise, rather than splash the cash. I'm pretty sure you can ask to see the Practise Nurse and bypass your doc, if he's being dismissive.

A blood glucose meter would be more accurate than dip sticks, but you're missing the point. The OP wants to know if they are diabetic or not, not what their blood glucose is at a specific moment in time. Urine dip sticks, such as Clinistix are as good a way to do this as any - in fact they are probably better than using a blood glucose meter as they are non-invasive and you don't have to worry about getting rid of sharps. If dip sticks show glucose in the urine then you definitely need to speak to your GP, where as blood glucose results need a bit more interpretation.

OP, if you go to the pharmacy to buy the dip sticks or a meter, do take the chance to speak to the pharmacist and explain your concerns and symptoms. Some pharmacies do offer checks as well.
