Someone told me that carrots absorb the most amount of pesticides so make sure they are organic if you can.

  • They smell like parsley to me, so I'm going to add them finely chopped to some veg soup, which will ensure they're cooked til tender, too. It will only be in small quantities, as my carrots didn't exactly run away in their enthusiasm this year!

Carrots seem to last longer in the fridge if you cut the green bits off first. However, it COULD be because the only ones I ever get with tops on are organic...
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

Can I just say that from a gardening point of view it is not wise to add them to compost if you are yourself growing carrots - I believe it can encourage carrot fly - and if you get that you will be unhappy (and so will any neighbours who are also trying to grow their own carrots). May be an old wives tail but there is usually something in these things.

This is true. If fact putting carrots anywhere near your garden in the open can encourage carrot fly. They follow the smell to your garden.
