I am currently having a war with natwest mortgages.
We applied for our mortgage at the beginning of april. We have since dealt with the most incompetant people ever at natwest.
Every person i speak to at the so called customer service department gives me different info.
They have messed us about so much telling us one day that they dont need particular socuments from us only to tell us the next day that they need them.
We were finally told on wednesday that the underwriters have assessed our mortgage application and we 'have passed' what ever that means!
but now they are saying that my partners address on his bank statments doesnt match the address we gave them on our application.
This isnt our fault as we did the application over the phone. Every hold, every mistake has been made by natwest and we may lose out on our dream home because of them.
They are now saying that this has gone to a special dept 'to investigate'. The only problem with the address is that they have switched the first and second line of the address on their systm.
Does anyone know if this is going to cause us a problem or not. I cant sleep, eat or even think with worry.
And if they say we've passed the application process does that mean we have a mortgage offer ending they are satisfied that the address is ok???

Please don't worry, wot will be will be and no amount of stressing will change that. I'm sure you will get some useful replies. As my mum used to say "these things are sent to try us"
:rolleyes:Excited for Florida - May 2012 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
Don't panic

The only thing you can do is to keep on top of them, and keep in touch with them. Don't leave anything to chance, or wait for them to call you.
We had an absolutely shocking experience with Nationwide when we were applying for our mortgage two years ago, and like you, were almost at the end of our teathers.
There were numerous failures with our paper application, which included Nationwide:
1) Failing to read their own application form correctly, and telling us that the Solicitors details we had given them were not recognised as approved solictors. (Our Solicitors have dealt with Nationwide for over a decade, Nationwide had been reading the details from the ESTATE AGENTS box)
2) Delaying the application due to the fees not being paid, blindly ignoring my credit card details on the form for the area marked "payment details for fees"
3) Completely misreading the property details on the form, sending their approved surveyor to a non existant house number 40, instead of number 4, taking another week and a half.
4) Failing to send any of the status update text messages which I had signed up for, to keep me informed, which meant I had to be calling them constantly instead.
After all this, you would think it would have been plain sailing. Much to my annoyance, and despite repeated calls directly to the mortage department, the application then seemed to sit in limbo for another week for no reason whatsoever, waiting to go in front of the underwriters.
Things were only moved on when I contacted the callcentre to start the complaints procedure rolling, as I was sick of being fobbed off by the mortgage department. The lovely lady in the callcentre was genuinely shocked when she reviewed our case file, and that it had taken over a month for such a straightforward application to go through. Credit to her, she promised to send some emails to some people in positions of authority.
For the first time in four long weeks I had encountered someone at Nationwide who not only performed everything that she had promised, but she obviously kicked so much @rse doing it that it was in front of the underwriter the very next morning. We'll always be grateful to her.
The funny thing was, once the underwriter had it the next morning and it was approved straight away, I received ALL of the status report text messages which I had been expecting over the past five weeks all in one go.
You'll get there in the end, you shouldn't have to keep chasing them but make sure you do.
Best of luck0 -
The longer they keep you waiting the cheaper the house becomes. Blessing in disguise.I can take no responsibility for the use of any free comments given, any actions taken are the sole decision of the individual in question after consideration of my free comments.
That also means I cannot share in any profits from any decisions made!;)0 -
thanks for the replies.
we were told yesterday that we have been sucessful in our application and the survey has been instructed.
once thats done they'll send us the formal offer in writing.
thank god i call them every day, maybe it made them pulle the finger out and do something for once!!!!!0 -
wow things have all changed.
our survey came back at 10k less. so we are in a fight with the buikders ri reduce the property price by 20k. I think at this time with all the news on house prices dropping, we will have our new offer excepted.
We have been told we'll find out tomorrow if we can have it at 20k less. We cant sign our mortgage offer until we get the go ahead.
fingers crossed0 -
Careys came back today and have accepted our lower offer of 180k with 5% deposit paid. Natwest will except the 5% deposit aswell as our own 5% deposit luckily.
Im now in a fight to get carpets fitted for free an dthey are playing hard ball.
Telling me ive already had a great discount on the house!!!!!!!!!!
Im not calling them to beg so as they know my mortgage offer is here and waiting to be signed by us I think i'll make them sweat and call me.
Eventually after all the holds ups by natwest, the survey resukts and a whole lota stress we may actually get somewhere.x0 -
Well done

Sounds like you got the right result. I dont think anyone that hasnt been in the position of a mortgage or re-mortgage really understands the amount of pressure they put you under.0
