  • While we're on the subject of soaking, can I just remind everyone that kidney beans (the sort used in chilli) MUST BE BOILED FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES to get rid of the toxins, or they can kill. Adding kidney beans to a slow cooker is NOT sufficient as they are not normally cooked at a high enough temperature. You must BOIL them!!!!

    The ones in tins are fine as they have already been dealt with!
