Self Employed Exporting Question

I am self employed, doing buy, sale and repair of Electronics. All is internet based mainly on Ebay and all is going well.
At the moment I only buy and sale in the EU. Outside of the EU buying is not really an option because of VAT charges but when doing research on HMRC site about exporting there seems to be lots involved. I am sure selling outside of the EU will be profitable but could anyone advise me on what would be involved with regards to paperwork, charges etc.
Any advice would be appreciated
