Ever heard of Sumvision? Me neither. Plenty of supermarkets have similar things from companies you've never heard of at very similar prices. My local Co-op local supermarket has a SwissTek one for about £90.
If I were tempted (and I'm not) to buy something like this made by a company I've never heard of, I think I'd want to buy it over a counter so I could take it back in the event of a failure, rather than mucking about with post and packing.
Ebuyer recently had a bunch of JVC reconditioned ones that also do timeslip via a DVD-RAM disk at around £80.00. I nabbed one of those and am very pleased with it. I've had no problems with ebuyer, though I know there have been discussion threads where people have voiced different opinions.0 -
I did put in my op that i didnt know if this was a great buy or not..but posted so people could make up their own minds.
Also special reserve do have shops so i would imagine you can buy over the counter and save £2 postage0 -
Lack of a known brand name wouldn't put me off. A lot of stuff comes from the same manufacturer then another company sticks a badge on it. Some have a different plastic front made to make it look different. I read that all vcrs for example are made by (if memory serves) four factories. Personally I would look for reviews, both from consumer groups and owners, then decide.
<edit> Googled for the player and all the reviews I read were good, with a few niggles which may just be setup issues.
