I think we will maybe need a 'learning to eat again club' before too long.
Well Im having a bit of an issue at the minute - over dinner. There are chicken kievs in the freezer (whoopsied) and Im debating making them for tea (one each for me and bf) and giving the boys chicken burgers with boiled potatoes and veg. They have a garlic butter filling. I can remember eating them before but not since an dnow Im really sat wondering if I'd actualyl eat it if i did cook it up.
Arrrgggghhh!!!!!!!!!!!! Its really hard...............Time to find me again0 -

That is the same problem I have. I first noticed a problem with eating apples, the next year I noticed that around the time of the ornamental cherry trees blossoming I had cold like symptoms which wouldn't go away. This all started about three years ago. I now have hayfever symptoms during the cherry tree season (so its nearly finished) but my allergy to fruits is all year. The only fruits I can eat safely are bananas, water melon, grapes and citrus fruits. I do however cook up some lovely fruit crumbles with all the fruit I can't eat-then there is no problem with them once cooked.
I now always carry anti-histamines with me, luckily the job I do (nanny) means there is often kids piriton in the house, which was handy as once at work I had some blueberries with the kids I looked after and within two minutes my lips and tongue were swelling up. From that time on I've carried anti-histamines.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3650 -
Hi,
I have rections to Dairy, kiwi fruit, bananas, water chestnuts and water melon
I can not even walk past the bananas in the supermarket or be in the same room as them in someones house.
I think you are very brave and should give yourself a pat on the back.0 -

No, i did well though - they are in the freezer again - I had intentions of cooking them up but boyfriend walked through the door with a takeaway as I got them out - not sure if it was good or not because I had sort of psyched myself up - which i think would have made it a bit harder to do. Need to try and not think about it so much and jsut do it i think.
Anyway we will be having them monday now because Im at work form 3 - 10 tonight so wont be home to do tea or anything. Will be bringing home some antihistamines tonight though.
Stupid questions - how do anti histamines work anyway? I know they dont stop the initial reaction but do they stop the actions of a reaction?? (does that make any sense? I know what im trying to say but cant think of how to put it) also - if your throat/toungue swells does it just get difficult to breath or will they actually shut?Time to find me again0 -
I have anaphalaxis to penicillins and mosquito bites. I developed these reactions as an adult, after previously suffering no ill effects from either earlier on in my life. I'm unsure as to whether I could develop a reaction one day to something else but this doesn't effect my life at all. I carry an adrenaline pen with me and just get on with it. I lived in the tropics for the past 2 years (5 hours from a hospital) and I just took an anti-histamine pill each day. Still alive :j
Don't let the fear of the unknown control your life like this - it doesn't have to be that way. Just eat whatever you fancy make sure you carry some antihistamines pills with you just in case! The best way to forget all your troubles is to wear tight shoes.0 -
