How do I make a mini mattress thing cover?

Now I'm sure most of you know how absolutely UN - Oldstyle I am but I'm going to break with my own useless tradition and actually try to recycle something.
I've got an Ikea king size memory foam mattress topper thing that's not needed anymore and I've cut it up into sections for my daughter to use as playmats etc.
The topper had 'dimples' in it where thread and a flat button type thing went from one side through to the other and also had a zip on it all the way round. I had to cut the dimple threads and cut through the zip so I'm left with just foam really.
The foam also has white wadding stuff on either side btw.
Now, bearing in mind how rubbish at sewing I am and how completely uncrafty I am.........what's the easiest way to put a cover on the foam?
I did think I could just buy a cheap single duvet cover, put the foam inside the bottom half of it, fold the rest over and velcro it.
Then I thought that the foam woukd move about inside too much so I thought I'd try to put dimples into it again but dont know what to use and I cant find anything on eBay cos I dont know what to search for.
Any ideas please?

It depends if you need to take the cover off to wash it, which if it's for a play mat I guess you would. How big are the pieces of foam? I think I would turn the duvet cover inside out then put the foam inside and pin round the cover on three sides so it's a fairly tight fit, then take the foam out and machine stitch where the pins are. Turn it the right side out put the foam inside and stitch up the open end, then when you need to wash it unpick the hand sewn stitches and take the foam out. It would be easier to change if you were able to put a zip or velcro on the opening edge. If you can make a flap like there is on a pillow case, but make it much deeper that would serve the same purpose. Oh just had another thought, if you use the end of the duvet cover that has the press studs or buttons and the open edge you wont need to make any fastenings. Hope that make it clear.0

The foam is cut into bits about single duvet width and about half the length maybe. I've rummaged about and found an old one so I'll have a go tomorrow.
I still think I might need to dimple or fix the cover in some way though? It's not really the foam thats the problem, it's the wadding stuff that's covering it that might move about and bunch up under the cover? Or should I just shove big stitches through the foam and the wadding first to hold it together before putting the cover on it.
I also dont have a machine btw. In fact, I think I only have one needle....last seen shoved in the pinboard.
My Mother would be so proud. :rotfl:

Spray on material glue (most craft shops sell it) spray on and stick the material on. That's how I managed to make some foam pad seat covers becuase I can't sew either! One day I might be more organised...........
