Fingers crossed you get a decent cut in rate.

I know banks are businesses and trying to make money (although some aren't very good at it!) but one would hope the BoE and / or government would be able to make them play fair. They cut savings instantly and fully but loans / mortgages etc no way Jose!

I had a scary moment on drive to work this morning. Lots of sleet plus icy dual carriage way when white van in front of me slams as bloke swerved out of inside lane, I skidded to avoid him, car benind me went across hard shoulder. Soon became apparent lorry in front was shedding huge rolls of what looked like insulation material

Hope you found more fun things to do with day off than spreedsheet fiddling. I know, I know what could be more fun :rotfl:

Nearly missed the fab news in the edit!

    Congrats

    Thanks for that.

Laptop was playing up so have reformatted and installed operating system. Touchpad was being unresponsive but, upon removing battery (it had not held PC on for long the other day) the touchpad then responded fine. Looked up replacement part, about £60!

I may defer the purchase for a little while, but we have to leave the battery out so it is not well balanced!

It seems the fan oven in our 4yr old Neff has failed this afternoon. I'll need to get it looked at in the near future meanwhile using the convection oven.

Yet another unplanned cost to be covered from the emergency funds; hoping this is the last for some while!

    Hi Stuart

Just a quick (public) note to thank you for the spreadsheets. Have spent most of the afternoon populating/trying to understand links (you may want to have a look at Motor exes - it's feeding through to the outgoings page as #NAME (?).

I believe it will prove an easier system than that which I use currently (I'm an old fashioned accountant - all my data is in handwritten ledgers - archaic, I know - but I had a really bad experience a few years ago, when the PC I had at the time lost 4 years of personal accounting data - and no, I hadn't backed up).

I will be following your story with interest, and don't be too surprised if I follow your lead with an MFW diary before too long! (Just waiting for DH to secure next contract - then I'll be able to plot the next few months).

    All the best
Poor and content is rich enough!

Thanks for that; we must have hit post at the same instant!

I think the Excel sheet still has the OpenOffice function in it. I'll go check.

    Edit: Yes formulae needed correcting

Wow last post 8 Feb and it was on the third page of the board...

Moved some cash over from savings to Currnet a/c just to cover until OH pay is dropped in on Friday (hope then to recoup back to savings). Our net debt to the world is now £5.28 (a couple of pints!) so hope we may be able to stay net positive in March if possible - there's a challenge :D

Savings are behind target though due to the extra costs we've had, but, end is slowly coming into focus so really want to get there! :o

Just need to see if there are any vouchers for OH's shopping tomorrow

OH was paid yesterday, so "repaid" the monies taken from the savings to plug the current a/c plus a further £200. Need to try to find a further £712 though to hit the monthly target for saving which I think will be difficult. Investment sums for ISAs gone out from current a/c so the new range of funds will now be drip fed with funding each month. I'm reminding myself that the markets are likely to be at best level this year, but may drop, so hoping this is the best approach to mitigate loss but also to build units up whilst cheap.

Meanwhile, our net position has of course improved with OH pay, but credit card bill is due to be run on 18th. It looks to be at the lower end of our typical spend level presently, so fingers crossed for this.

Just run through setting up new spreadsheets for gas and electricity consumption now BG has confirmed the meter situation. Have set up to derive estimates of consumption as BG only bill quarterly not monthly
Since mid-October the average daily gas consumption is about 53kWh (estimate as calorific value is variable of course).
Day rate electricity is 15.05kWh, Night rate 2.79kWh (18.5%)
    Total daily electricity 17.84kWh

Originally our night consumption was nearly 25% as the mechanical time clock had offpeak running from 0200-0900hrs. New digital meter has it 0000-0700hrs, so obviously need to get OH and DD up earlier to use the shower!

Presently feeling a bit low, lack of day light most likely, but annoyed at the extra spends we've had and that things seem to be going very slowly (except the hours at work which are rushing by without sufficient progress). Hope this is just a minor issue as I "know" progress is visible and the target's not far off too. Maybe having this coming week off with DD will help.
  • Stuart, we can't have you feeling low, you provide too much advice and support to others on the board !
