Northern Rock idiots

Options
I have banked with Northern Rock for over 15 years (current account). What they have just done to me may not be exclusive to them, but I've had enough!

Due to them not having internet banking - those paying their salaries in miraculously somehow are meant to keep tabs on everything with a monthly statement only (they have refused to send more than this), hardly any branches therefore no mini-statements, I have opened a new current account with Nationwide (cashcard only due to bad credit history but a great improvement on the stupid antiquated NR account). I needed my Northern Rock debit card to make a large payment yesterday, so I transferred the money via Nationwide online banking. Of course it takes a few days and in any case I needed to add more as NR account was overdrawn so I trudged down to the branch (way out of my way) this morning before work to pay the cash in. Payment still won't go through - I phone NR and they say "it takes 24 hrs". I think they've got such a bloody cheek. It is my cash, I paid it in and I should be able to spend it straight away; they have kept hold of it and prevented me from making this payment. The snooty attitude I got on the phone was a bit rich coming from NR. Needless to say I'm closing the account completely once all my direct debits are sorted.

It is this kind of thing that makes an already stressful situation of struggling with money and debt 10x more stressful. All the doors seem to be closed, and your life is made so much more of a struggle, when it needn't be, just because of misfortune or bad money management years ago. I'm just about sick of it weighing me down. I have had no choice for years of a decent current account with debit card, due to one ccj and one default five years a go, despite working full time. It's ludicrous. What more could anyone do? It's not like I'm not tryiing.

I ranted at them and slammed the phone down - they are hardly in a position to preach about money management.

Good rant, sounds like you need to find another account before you do anything drastic and find you dont have a route to go down. Not having internet banking in 2008 is ridiculous .

Isn't it?!! They can hardly call it a service when you pay your salary in each month and can't even make payments properly because of their stuffy old system! The Nationwide current account was virtually all I could get, so will wait a few months and then apply for a debit card with them.

    Hi

have you tried the Co-op cash minder account? You need to call up to get an account. You can pay in via the post office they give you an electron card and they have a brilliant online service.
