Advice please - extra savings for pensions?

Hi,

I've had an NHS work pension (6% contributions - 6.5% since April 2008) since starting work at age 23. In addition, I also assume that I'll be eligible for the state pension. I intend to work until I'm 65.

In addition to the above pension provisions, do I also need to save privately to add to my pension pot?

Ike

  • The 2/3rds of your final salary you'll get plus the OAP should be adequate for most and a dream for many so in a nutshell no.

But then who knows? the final salary scheme may well be closed down, you may want to or be forced into early retirement, or even quit the job.
