Help with my Discharge!

Hi all
I was discharged along with my husband, on September 21st 2007. It was an early discharge after 6 months.
We received stamped by the court formal notices of discharge. Following the recent discussions regarding overpayment of benefits, I have contacted the Housing Benefit office, and it seems we no longer are obliged/required to pay back the outstanding £452. However they have requested the notices of discharge (understandably). I have my husband's, and the envelopes they arrived in, but mine has completely disappeared. With a move to France, 6 weeks staying with parents and 2 further house moves, since discharge, I am not sure where to find it.
What can I do to prove my discharge?
I assume it is not as straightforward as contacting my OR and asking for a copy...
Any ideas anyone?
Also does anyone know if this would apply to the overpayment of tax credits (overpaid 2 years ago) which had the final £550 reclaimed in the last 5 months?
Hope you can help!!!
Vixx

You can easily contact your OR office and ask for a copy....your details may be in storage now though so you might have to wait a little while for someone to dig your files out & copy the discharge details

or you could contact the court you petitioned at & pay the £65 or so for a copy

  • Hi SV

You can apply for a certifcate of discharge.

If you wish, you can obtain a certificate of discharge. A certificate is not necessary in most cases, but if you need one you should write to the court that dealt with your bankruptcy. Do not write sooner than 2 weeks before your discharge date. Give your name, address and court number (to be taken from the latest correspondence about your bankruptcy).
The court will check with the Official Receiver that you are entitled to an automatic discharge. You should receive a certificate confirming your discharge within about 4 weeks.
A fee of £60 is payable to the court for issuing a certificate of discharge (further copies will cost £1 each). You can also ask for the Official Receiver to advertise your discharge, but you will have to pay the costs of this before it is done. (taken from IS website)

I'm not sure if theres any help available with the costs.
But..i'd say start with your OR first, they might be able to re-send a copy of your original discharge, which would save you money.

Edit: dam, your getting quicker Phil..or i'm getting slower

    Hi Foxy,

How are you doing? I hope everything is going well.

Looks like you've got the answers to your questions. We're meeting up in Worcester at the end of August, if that's anywhere close to you.

    Best regards

    Rich

EDIT: Tax credit overpayments are included in your bankruptcy.:j :j

    Hi Guys!!!
    Thanks so much,
I contacted the OR's office. The secretary looked up my reference number and confirmed the date of discharge. She said she could send me an official letter, from the OR's office, confirming my discharge on 21st September. She said this should be official enough, and if not I would need to contact the court that dealt with it and pay £60. But I think the letter she is sending this evening will be good enough!!!
    Thanks again!

Oh and just called The Tax Credits office. Lady confirmed the information appeared to be correct and advised me to send in the evidence!
