Hair highlights in Aberdeen?
Does anyone know of a decent hairdressers in Aberdeen? I think anywhere else must be cheaper than James Duns House, which is where I currently go. They are amazing but it's costing me a fortune (about £100 for cut and highlights - I know, I know, but I love how they do it...)
It's mainly the highlights I'm worried about - I've had some dodgy jobs done in the past and so now only trust James Dun's house. Can anyone recommend anyone else for highlights?

Hi
I know you say your worried about someone mucking it up but have you ever tried the college or a hairdresser that is looking for models!! At both they are supervised either by tutor or by fully trained hairdresser.
Might be worth a try!!Everyone is entitled to their opinionEllie 25/12/070 -
Or asking if James Dunns can do you any cheaper, by downgrading the level of hairdresser who does your hair. do you not pay more for top notch stylists?
or is that defeating the purpose?
If you've been going there for ages, could you not chat up your hairdresser on the quiet for a homer?I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Well, it was the actual colourist that I liked rather than the hairdresser place itself but speaking to her about a home job is a good idea. However, that means actually having a session with her and paying £££ first! I've been going a while but don't know her that well to just nip in and ask...I haven't got the bottle0

I can't believe anyone would pay that much for a hair do! Up until very recently, I've been having my hair cut and coloured by a hairdresser in a small local' salon in Rosemount. She was so good that once, a trendy bloke giving out vouchers for Tony and Guy when it opened said I wasn't getting one cos I didn't near their help hehe! Made my day I'll tell ya! Sadly, she's hung up her scissors and even more sadly, the other hairdressers at the salon seem totally unable to cut a bob! Last couple of hair cuts I've had to get my OH to check and trim 'missed' bits so I'm also about the start hunting for a new hairdresser.
I digress! The point is, dont look in the city centre if you want value for money. You're paying for their rent and not necessarily for a good cut/colour. Ask around your friends and at work who goes where and what they think. If you see somone with a good cut and colour, stop them and tell them they look great and ask where they go. You'll probably make their day!0 -
sorry this hairdressers is in Keith , about 40 miles along the A96 but they are really good and would be a lot cheaper than Aberdeen prices even with the petrol cost... SHEARS on Mid StreetVampires Rock :eek:0

Hi
I have a friend that uses the college and has had no real problems so would recommend them, I don't know what she pays but certainly nowhere near £100!!!!! I use a salon in George St and a cut and highlights cost me £56 yesterday (Ken Wood) I have been using him for a number of years. It is his own place and he works on his own. He is very popular so it may not be easy to get an appointment.

tricky one, as yes you'd need a reason to be there in the first place.
I'm sure you could find somewhere cheaper than that without compromising on quality. Half the price even if you go out of town a little.
I hear people say about £45 for highlights and cut n blow dry in Stonehaven....I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
i personally like Angels just off George Street. it helped that i got 10% discount when i worked next door in JL
i also have trust issues with hairdressers and end up playing it safe with cut and just going nuts on the dye at home myself, that way i only blame me and am generally happier and £££er

Hello,
I used to use James Dunn too (and still go for a cut occassionally). I got hacked off shelling out £100 too.
I go to Angels for highlights now (the one near John Lewis, not the one in Cannons). If you PM me I can tell you who not to get your appointmanet with - i had one bad experience there although a senior hairdresser took over and my hair was perfect.
It is cheaper than JHD, wish i could remember the exact price!! Wouldn't class it as a bargain though - i think it is between £60-£80.
I find that the colour aways lasts and is nice and bright. The salon is not so nice though and you don't feel so 'pampered'!
Although if anyone has any other suggestions I am always up fro a change! Quite fancied trying Ishoka...0 -
