Best Pension providers.

Hi, hope somone can help :-)

I have just contacted my Pension Provider to find out what was in my Pension as i have not paid into it for about 10 years, I was surprised to find out how much was in there.
I would like to know which Pension provider is best should i wish to transfer from my current provider, they are sending me details of pension through the post as they didn`t have my address so they had me down as "address unknown".
I wish to start the pension up again either with this provider or another.

Thank you for your time reading this and hope you can help.

    which Pension provider is best

Thats probably impossible to answer objectively

There are good one's and bad one's

In reality though it is what your Pension is invested in that will make most of the difference, rather than the wrapper provider.

    Hi Daz

Firstly I am an IFA but please do not take this post as advice as that has a specific meaning for a regulated person like me.

There are 2 main reasons to switch a pension.

    1. Lower charges
    2. More investment/fund choices

In terms of lower charges there are schemes about that offer lower than stakeholder charges but they depend on your position. What I mean by that is fund value, contribution level and your age. In addition dont forget to check if there are any penalties involved in switching.

Purch is right that investment performance is very important. These days the better schemes can be cheap and also offer a wide investment choice. Certainly much wider than stakeholder. It is always worth giving your investment choices some thought and perhaps taking advice in this area.

So in order to help more I would need some more information.

    Hope this helps!

Personally, I dont see stakeholder pensions existing after 2012 when the NPSS comes in. It will be SIPP and personal pensions then. some Personal pensions can already be cheaper than a stakeholder and many personal pensions offer the stakeholder fund range at stakeholder prices but with many external funds as well. It really makes the stakeholder largely irrelevent.

  • Not sure how to find a good one. I've had a nightmare with Standard Life though.

Beware IFA charges for moving. They will charge you a fortune for not a lot.

    Good luck.

Care to back that up by telling me what my charges are as you appear to know mine and 30,000 odd other advisers charges.
