Naomim - have you thought of transferring your phone, cable tv etc. to Virgin media? they have deals where you can get phone, tv and perhaps broadband for £30 or phone, tv, internet and mobile for £40. This may cut down on expenditure. There's no need to pay for movies although that expensive option is there as they have loads of them on channels like Film4 and Movies24.

Try looking at a comparison site for dual fuels - NPower is quite dear as I understand and if you use a cashback site such as Quidco you will be able to get some money back.

In an effort to make some free money why not join in one of the challenges? Do a few carboot sales or sell stuff on ebay - every little helps as they say.

    Good luck

Chelsea season ticket well being a Man United season ticket holder (gloat gloat for season just gone :) ) then I can understand you not wanting to give that up but yeah if you put some money aside each month to pay for it then that's a good plan. Obviously if you have a month when you're struggling money wise it might be an idea to sell your tickets for the odd game to get some extra cash quickly? For face value of course not recommending touting!!

Think the Sky does sound expensive, I think like others said maybe you don't need the DVD rental if you have the movie channels????

Well done on lowering your mobile costs and definitely try getting a cheap deal for OH or even PAYG so the spending can be controlled

Ebay is great for selling stuff you no longer want :)

Take a look on the old style saving threads for ideas for cheap grocery shopping x x

To be honest we use our mobiles instead of the landline as we are with talk talk and whilst we get free daytime/evening calls, if you call a mobile it's really expensive so it's cheaper to use the mobiles as we both get free minutes/texts a month. DH and his best mate are worse than a pair of teenagers nattering all the time! lol

Also if I suggested DH gave up his season ticket I think I'd be divorced pronto! He's been going since he was seven years old although he knows he has to make sacrifices if he wants to continue. It was only last night when the penny dropped for him just how much schtuck we are in financially.

I will look into virgin/sky broadband etc but I think you have to have a BT line but being with Talktalk means we don't so I'm not sure if I can go ahead.

I'm also going to to look into swapping energy suppliers on Saturday.

I also have some patches for the smoking... I have registered on the Nicorette site and my programme starts on Monday so please cross your fingers for me everyone!

Thanks one and all for all the suggestions.

It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.

    Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd report in as I've amended my SOA as I'd put a weekly amount down for the shopping :o.

It means we have a little less to spend on debts but hopefully I have a cunning plan all worked out. I've switched energy suppliers and gone to a capped rate with E-On. Hopefully by this time next year I will be reaping the benefits and I'm collecting Tesco Clubcard points at the same time :D

I'm off work on Tuesday so I plan to spend the day listing lots of things on ebay. After reading a thread on here somewhere I'm sure I have lots of old tat I can get on there. I'm going to phone my suppliers of various bits and pieces and see if I can change the payment days of my DD's to the same day just after DH's payday. By working from the SOA I am going to put all the monthly bits, petrol money, car money etc in a different account so it doesn't get touched.

Tomorrow is the start of my no-smoking life so once that kicks in, I should have another £140 or so to pay towards the dreaded debt. I need to print off the demotivator to keep me going (as if knowing I'm in debt isn't enough).

    Thanks for all help

The football season ticket isnt the problem , its all the bits around it. Travel to games , food and drinks at the game and match programme.

Maybe some education along the lines of "Look hun , I know you like your football , but you know , you spend a lot of money when you go. How about you take a bit less cash and/or sarnies"

I travel all over the country for football. OK , I do all the driving , so I get my petrol and ticket entry paid , but on the rare occassions I dont drive , it can be shockingly expensive.

I just found my mortgage statement from January this year and my morgtage is now £122196.00 which is much better from the £127k I thought it was :T

Also I've been phoning the people I pay DD's to, gas electric etc to get them to change the dates to the beginning of the month. It now means they're not taking payments this month and they will come out beginning of July so a saving of £150 this month (although I know I will still pay the same amount by then end)

Great about the mortgage - its always nice to get a surprise like that.

Hows the no smoking going? Did you manage to get started yesterday?

Sounds like you're really keen to get this sorted. Have you looked at the Grocery Challenge thread on the OS board. There's loads of ideas and tips there and lots of lovely recipes.

    Keep up the good work!
