Going rate for phone no. wanted by taxi firm.

Dont know if this is the right board but here goes.

A guy at work has been phoned by a local taxi firm wanting to buy his phone no. 464646. Thing is they won't make him an offer, they want him to decide what he wants for it.

How do you put a price on this. Obviously he can only gain from it. But it got me thinking. How would you evaluate what the selling price should be?

What do people think would be a realistic sum he should ask for?

Comments

  • A realistic sum would be the most they would be willing to pay for it... its up to them to name the price since they want it...

or.. he can name a stupid price (like £5k) and see their reaction.

The looser is the one who names a price first

If it was me I would say "i wasn't intending to put the number up for sale, but if you make a high enough offer you could change my mind".

He has nothing to lose if they walk away.

I might also ring 474747 and ask how much they want for their number, jic this company is looking for "any old" memorable number.

I was offered £400 to sell my phone number (363363) to one local firm
I didnt take it as i wanted more than that and was going to haggle with them, but i moved out before. But you could use that as a rough idea anyway ??

I'd say between £1k and £2k would be reasonable..

    I think i'd start about £10k.
What you need to consider is how much extra busy the firm is going to get, by having a number lots of people will remember, without the need for expensive advertising.
Maybe it should be valued a lot higher.
Compare it to the price of a personalised car registration

I have worked with paying taxi companies and they are usually strapped for cash especially seems they have to wait at ranks etc. Best of luck getting anything above 1k. I just hope the business you're negotitating with are very busy :)
