Can you self cert with HSBC?

Does anyone know whether you can self certify your income to apply for an HSBC mortgage? I would prefer answers to the question, rather than asking me why I need to self cert. I think we all know the answer to that one.

That's a definate no. They might not ask for proof of income when you sumit an application but that is not a 'self-cert'. It depends on your credit status and the amount of dosh you are putting down as deposit. You could have a go but it would need to be a big deposit and squeaky clean.

Think about it - if HSBC self-certed, do you think they'd have the money now, post-crunch, to offer the market's most competitive mortgages?

    Er, no.

They're well capitalised because they didn't behave like reckless idiots during the so-called boom years.

They're also very conservative on valuations, too. So you might think you have a good LTV, but you could well be wrong.
